Home/For Young People

This place is for you.

Before, during, and after your trip to Castlerigg.

Before you arrive

Coming to Castlerigg.

Nervous? Don't be.

First things first

Come as you are.

You don't need to have it all figured out. You don't need to be the most religious person you know. Castlerigg is somewhere you can show up exactly as you are — to relax, to laugh, to ask the questions you've been carrying, and to meet people who get it.

Most young people come with their school, parish or youth group, so you'll have your mates around you — and a team of young volunteers to help you settle in.

What to expect

Something different, but in a good way.

No two retreats are the same, but most weave together a bit of everything.

Proper friendships

Games, talks, late-night chats and small groups where you're actually listened to.

The great outdoors

Walk in the Lake District, breathe the lake air, and swap your screen for one of the most beautiful places in the country. And don't worry - the walks are easy!

Space to think

Honest conversations, quiet moments and worship that meets you where you are — no pressure, no judgement.

Before you come

Your questions, maybe.

The things people usually want to know before a first retreat.

What actually happens on a retreat?
A mix of everything: short talks, small-group chats, games and team challenges, free time, walks, and moments of quiet and prayer. It's lively when it needs to be and calm when it needs to be — and there's always time to just hang out with your friends.
Do I have to be religious to come?
Not at all. And most people aren't. We will respect wherever you are at, and while we present what we believe, there is no pressure on you.
Where do we sleep, and what's the food like?
You'll stay in comfortable shared rooms in the Manor with people from your own group. Meals are proper home-cooked food, with options for allergies and dietary needs — just let us know in advance.
Is it just sitting in church all day?
There is some time in our chapel, but actually not that much. It's short and focused and actually a highlight for a lot of people.
What should I bring?
Pretty much the usual stuff you'd expect for being away from home, plus some outdoor stuff if you have it, but don't worry if you don't. Don't forget your sleeping bag. A full kit list is here
Will I know anyone there?
Almost certainly — most people come as part of their school, parish or youth group. Our team is brilliant at helping everyone settle in and feel part of things so, don't worry.
